As we settle fully into the days of the blessed month of Ramadan, everyone is still buzzing from the goals that they have planned for this month.
All the dua that you’ve written down, the extra ibaadah, the strive to read a whole Qur’an during the month, etc.
All of these are lofty goals that we’ve been encouraging ourselves to perform this month, so that we can gain as many rewards as possible.
In the midst of trying to make the most of Ramadan, two things are equally important to remember; simplicity and consistency. And in this post, we Insh’Allah share how both can help you reach whatever goals that you have set for Ramadan.

Simplicity in Ibaadah
Many people who normally do not wake up often for qiyamu layl (midnight non-obligatory salah) may have planned to do so in the month of Ramadan. So, you find someone who is not used to waking up at night suddenly staying up all night.
While some people may be able to manage the switch in routine, it will lead to burnout for many of us. This is why it looks like people start Ramadan with a lot of motivation, but lose steam by the middle of the month.
We are the Ummah of balance, and Allah (تعالى) does not place a burden on us in terms of worship.
If what you find easy for you to do is wake up for an hour every night and you’ll be able to offer salah, make dua and recite the Qur’an, that is better for you than spending all night in prayer without concentration.
Simplicity in our ibaadah during Ramadan cuts across every act of worship, not just qiyamu layl. It’s in our charity, our fast itself, our iftar, suhoor, and everything we do.
If you find that you can push yourself to do more than you normally do on a daily basis, Alhamdulilah. Go for it, increase your worship, and we pray that Allah (تعالى) accepts it from you.
But if you find that it’s easier for you to achieve the simpler ibaadah, then stick with it and remember that the one who you are doing all these for is well aware of your intentions and what you’re capable of.
Consistency Is Best
The Prophet (ﷺ) told us that Allah (تعالى) loves those actions that are consistent, no matter how little.
This means that it is more beneficial for us to read half a page of the Qur’an every day, than it is to read a juz today and nothing for the next three months.
In the month of Ramadan, consistency is even more important. Don’t reserve your ibaadah energy for the last ten days of Ramadan, while not doing much on the other days
- Read the Qur’an daily, no matter how little.
- Give a little in charity every day, even if it’s not money
- Offer nawaafil salah every day, even if it’s a single rak’ah
- Glorify the name of Allah (تعالى), even if it’s for five minutes
Whatever good deed you have set out to do in Ramadan, make it simple enough that you can be consistent with it.
Part of the benefit of being simple and consistent with our ibaadah in Ramadan is also that it helps us continue these actions after Ramadan. Because you did what you had the energy for, on a consistent basis, there’s a higher chance that you’ll continue doing these things even when Ramadan is over.
Conclusion
Ramadan is a beautiful and unique month. It’s the month where we as Muslims strive to maximize our worship for greater reward. While this is the general goal for the month, it is also good to remind ourselves that simplicity and consistency is an ideal that we can also strive towards in our worship of Allah (تعالى) this month.
