In our busy lives, it is sometimes easy to forget to maintain our memorization of the Quran. More often, this then leads us to forget what we’ve memorized. The Quran is the last testament of God sent to humanity and even though we know it gives life to our hearts, we still neglect it unfortunately

There are various reasons why we should try and maintain a consistent Quran memorization schedule even if it is only a very small portion! Here are 4 reasons why:

1: The Reward

The reward for memorizing the Quran is immense, even for the one who is struggling to do so. Aisha (radi Allahu anha) narrated from the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) who said,

“The likeness of the one who reads Quran and memorizes it, is that he is with the righteous & honorable scribes. The likeness of the one who reads it and tries hard to memorize it even though it is difficult for him will have two rewards.”

[Narrated by Bukhari]

So, no matter how much we memorize, Allah is going to reward us. For the one who memorizes it in ease shall be with the angels in reward, and as for the one who does it even if it is being difficult, Allah will actually make him get double that reward! No matter what is going on, the rewards are massive and we should strive for that.

2: The Best Deeds

There is another reason why a regular schedule will also help us maintain the rewards and earn Allah’s pleasure. Allah loves the good deeds done regularly, and thus by keeping it consistent, we will ensure that we have a lot of reward, in shaa Allah. The Prophet said,

“Take up good deeds only as much as you are able, for the best deeds are those done regularly even if they are few.”

[Narrated by Ibn Majah]

So by keeping a regular schedule, we will ensure that one of our deeds falls into the category of what the Prophet described as “the best deeds”.

3: Spiritual Enlightenment

Allah sent down the rain to revive the dead earth, and He sent down the Quran to revive the dead hearts. A regular memorization schedule ensures that we build a lasting relationship with the Quran. Through memorizing and revising, we will end up spending significant portions of our lives with the Quran, and this will help us both in this life and the hereafter. It will bring us added tranquillity and ease in this life, and will help in achieving the pleasure of Allah in the hereafter.

4: Improves Your Salah

As new verses are learned, one tries and puts them into practice by reciting them in their prayers. As new Surahs are slightly more difficult to get out of our minds, it makes sure that we are concentrating more on what we recite and thus improves the quality of our prayers. There is also an increased relationship we have with our prayers. It even helps us connect outside our prayer times, and keeps an ongoing connection with Allah as well. Our prayers are the first thing that we will be questioned about on the Day of Judgement, and if we can get our prayers right, then we can expect an easier reckoning on the Day when every bit of ease will be of use to us.
