When Shaytan disobeyed Allah and Allah ordered him out of Paradise, his sole aim in life became to take the children of Adam (as), us, to hellfire along with him. He promised to sit on the Straight Path and come to us from every direction to distract us, delude us, make us forget, make us hopeless, commit sins, and ultimately worship other than Allah.

So the first evil from which we need to seek protection regularly is Shaytan and his troops. Also, there is a tendency within us towards satisfying carnal desires, often at the expense of our soul. So we also seek protection from the evil within us.

There are also shaytan among human beings, and there are hidden diseases within the hearts of otherwise good human beings. A person’s jealousy towards you gives devils the power to harm you, and this is called the Evil Eye. We seek protection from jealousy and its evil effects.

We also seek protection in Allah from His anger and punishment, for who can save us from His anger except Himself
